Let’s start protecting workers!

Our friend, and fellow attorney, Andrew Bribriesco, wrote an amazing article explaining why and how workers’ benefits under Iowa’s workers’ compensation laws are a rip off for employees, particularly those who worked a lot of overtime or who get employee benefits beyond their wages. Overtime wages do not count dollar-for-dollar and there is no consideration for things like the employer’s contribution to your pension, even though while you are unable to work, the employer won’t pay its share. We won’t attempt to re-explain what Andrew has already so eloquently written. Instead, you should read the article for yourself and then ask your Iowa legislators why this is. Shouldn’t we protect our workers and attract more of them? Aren’t we all subject to injury at some point through no fault of our own? Don’t we all have families who would suffer if our expected earnings were suddenly diminished?
